The American Board of Orthodontics awards the 2015 Dale B. Wade Award of Excellence in Orthodontics to Dr. Frederick J. Regennitter

 

The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) awarded Dr. Frederick J. Regennitter of Rochester, MN, the Dale B. Wade Award of Excellence in Orthodontics on May 16, 2015 at the annual luncheon of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics, which was held in conjunction with the 2015 Annual Session of the American Association of Orthodontists in San Francisco, CA.

The ABO bestows this award upon an exemplary senior clinician and Diplomate who demonstrates exceptional dedication to orthodontics through clinical excellence and/or devoted teaching in the image of Dr. Dale B. Wade, a past president of the ABO.   

Dr. Frederick J. Regennitter of Rochester, MN, has served as an assistant professor of dentistry at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine since 2001 and is the former program director of the orthodontic residency program at the Mayo Clinic. He is also a consultant to both the Division of Orthodontics and the Department of Dental Specialties at the Mayo Clinic. He holds master’s faculty privileges in dentistry in the Mayo Graduate School at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Regennitter is the dental director of Mayo Management Services Inc. He currently serves as a site visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Dr. Regennitter is a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army Dental Corps. He served in the Dental Corps from 1975 to 1995. From 1985 to 1987, he helped establish the U.S. Army’s first advanced education program in orthodontics at Fort Knox, KY. From 1990 to 1995, he served as the program director of this program.

He has received numerous honors for his military service. In 1979, he received the Army Commendation Medal for his service in the Canal Zone in the Republic of Panama. He received the Meritorious Service Medal – First Oak Leaf Cluster for his duty as staff orthodontist in Yongsan, Korea, from 1981 to 1983. He received the Meritorious Service Medal – Second Oak Leaf Cluster for his duty as staff orthodontist and assistant director of advanced education in orthodontics at Fort Knox from 1983 to 1986. He received the Meritorious Service Medal – Third Oak Leaf Cluster for his duty as chief orthodontist and assistant clinic chief in Würzburg, Germany, from 1987 to 1990. In 1995, the Department of the Army Surgeon General awarded him the “A” Prefix. He retired from the U.S. Army Dental Corps with the Legion of Merit Retirement Award for 20 years of exemplary military service.

Following his retirement, Dr. Regennitter served as an assistant and associate professor in orthodontics, as well as program director of graduate orthodontics, for the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in Louisville, KY.

Dr. Regennitter is a Diplomate of the ABO and a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics. He is a member of the Order of Military Merit and the Charles H. Tweed International Foundation. Dr. Regennitter is also a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.

Currently, he is a referee for the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants, and has served as a referee for the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in the past. Dr. Regennitter earned his DDS from the University of Iowa School of Dentistry in 1975 and completed his residency in orthodontics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1981. He is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.
