Dr. Allen H. Moffitt Receives the 2024 Dale B. Wade Award of Excellence in Orthodontics from The American Board of Orthodontics
The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) has presented Allen H. Moffitt, D.M.D., M.S., of Murray, Ky., the 2024 Dale B. Wade Award of Excellence in Orthodontics.
The Dale B. Wade Award recognizes an exemplary senior clinician and board-certified orthodontist who demonstrates exceptional dedication to orthodontics through clinical excellence and/or devoted teaching in the image of Dr. Dale B. Wade, an ABO past president. The award was presented on May 6 at the ABO awards reception held in conjunction with the American Association of Orthodontists Annual Session in New Orleans, La.
Dr. Moffitt was in private orthodontic practice in Murray, Ky., from 1974 to his retirement in 2015. He has been certified by the American Board of Orthodontics since 1984. He was elected to the ABO board of directors in 2000 and served as ABO president during the 2007-2008 year. He continues as an ABO examiner. The ABO presented him with the Earl E. and Wilma S. Shepard Distinguished Service Award in 2012.
A past president of the Kentucky Association of Orthodontists, Dr. Moffitt served as a director of the Southern Association of Orthodontists (SAO) for six years. He received the SAO’s Oren Oliver Distinguished Service Award in 2015.
Dr. Moffitt also is a member of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists Midwest Component, and is a fellow of the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists and the World Federation of Orthodontists. He represented the American Association of Orthodontists on the Dental Quality Alliance from 2009 -2019. He is associate editor for continuing education of the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.
After graduating from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in 1970, Dr. Moffitt served two years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve. In 1974, he earned a certificate and master’s degree in orthodontics from the University of Washington School of Dentistry.
On being chosen for the Dale B. Wade Award of Excellence in Orthodontics, Dr. Moffitt said, “I am truly honored to receive the Dale B. Wade Award of Excellence in Orthodontics and appreciate the ABO Directors’ confidence that I met the Award’s criteria. It is humbling to have my name added to the list of outstanding orthodontic colleagues who have been recognized in the past.”
