No Endorsement Policy
- The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) does not affiliate with any commercial enterprise and will not endorse any specific products, services or treatment techniques.
- No commercial enterprise, including ABO vendors and service providers, shall imply that the ABO endorses their products or services.
- The ABO’s copyrighted material, trade names, trademarks, and service marks, such as the ABO’s name, logo, seal, and other content, statements, and images in ABO publications or on the ABO website, may not be used by a commercial enterprise in any statement, website, print or electronic communication to market, sell, promote, or endorse a product or service. The ABO will take appropriate legal action to protect its intellectual property from unauthorized use.
- The ABO’s Certification Committee and Board of Directors are solely responsible for public dissemination of ABO-related information. No unauthorized entity or person, including ABO vendors or service providers, may issue public comments or statements on behalf of the ABO. Any unapproved public comments or statements violate this policy.
- The ABO may provide the opportunity for a company to introduce and demonstrate products or services that may facilitate ABO testing policies and data collection processes. These products or services will be field-tested by the ABO for efficacy, and results of such trials may offer valuable product information for future research and development. By field-testing such products or services, the ABO is not endorsing such products or services or allowing use of ABO intellectual property.
Examination Preparation Courses
While a commercial entity may offer a product or service intended to aid individuals in preparing for ABO examinations, the ABO does not authorize, license, or endorse any preparation course or program offered by any commercial entity, and use of any ABO intellectual property by a commercial entity for this purpose is strictly prohibited.
Any examinee that chooses to sign up for a commercial examination preparation course or program does so at his or her own risk. The statements, opinions, and analysis in any such course or program do not necessarily state or reflect those of the ABO.
If the ABO learns that a commercial entity is using the ABO’s name, or otherwise referencing the ABO, to promote a preparation course or program (or another product or service), the ABO will ask such entity to include the following disclaimer in a clear and conspicuous location on its website and/or marketing materials:
[Insert name of commercial entity] is not affiliated with or sponsored in any way by the American Board of Orthodontics, and no endorsement is implied by any reference to the “ABO,” the “Board” or the “American Board of Orthodontics” on this website.
The ABO may take additional action to put consumers on notice that (1) the ABO does not authorize, license, or endorse any preparation course or program offered by any commercial entity; (2) any examinee that chooses to sign up for a commercial examination preparation course or program does so at his or her own risk; and (3) the statements, opinions, and analysis in any such course or program do not necessarily state or reflect those of the ABO.
